Wildlife Tracking the Four Corners: Following the Seasons and Bioregions Six Class Series
A new six-month tracking series that follows the ecology of the Four Corners through the changing seasons, May–October 2026. Each month we’ll gather in a different landscape—desert canyons, pinyon-juniper mesas, montane forests, subalpine meadows—learning ecological relationships.

Bioregion / Habitat: Desert Canyons (SE Utah / Canyonlands region)
Focus Theme: Awakening the Tracker’s Eye — Fundamentals of track and sign, desert ecology, sand reading
Example Location: Indian Creek; Bears Ears; Canyon Rims
Seasonal Features: Clear sign in sand and clay soils; spring bird migration; reptiles emerging
June 20-21, 2026
Bioregion / Habitat: Pinyon-Juniper / Semi-arid Mesa
Focus Theme: Patterns of Movement — Gaits, trail patterns, and interpreting behavior
Example Location: Sand Canyon, Weber Canyon, Canyons of the Ancients
Seasonal Features: Consistent substrate; diverse mammals; warm days, cool nights
July 18-19, 2026
Bioregion / Habitat: Montane Forest (San Juans / La Platas)
Focus Theme: Tracking in Complexity — Forest floor tracking, aging sign, habitat interpretation
Example Location: Mancos State Park, Echo Basin
Seasonal Features: Moist duff; elk and bear sign; early summer abundance
August 15-16, 2026
Bioregion / Habitat: Subalpine Meadows & Riparian Zones
Focus Theme: Stories in the Mud — Multi-species interactions, ecological storytelling
Example Location: Grand Mesa, Colorado River Riparian
Seasonal Features: Soft mud along water; lush vegetation; high biodiversity

Bioregion / Habitat: High Desert / Shrubland Transition Zone
Focus Theme: Following the Hunt — Predator-prey dynamics, trailing exercises
Example Location: Dolores River Valley or Paradox Basin
Seasonal Features: Drier soils; animal movement concentrated near water
October 10-11, 2026
Bioregion / Habitat: Montane Aspen Belt to Subalpine Transition
Focus Theme: Migration and Change
Example Location: Lizard Head Pass, McClure Pass, or Gunnison Basin
Seasonal Features: Clear register of movement; seasonal adaptations; ecological tracking
